In the 1950's Richard Pinney took the first steps to resurrect the oyster beds at Butley Creek by laying oysters imported from Portugal. Early results were very promising and proved that Butley Creek, with its combination of natural plankton's, salinity and clean waters, was an excellent oyster fattening ground.
The oysters we grow now are bought in from the hatcheries at a very small size and laid on our beds for 2-3 years before being harvested.
